WHY EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT MATTERS
Early childhood development is one of the most powerful tools to break the generational cycle of poverty in South Africa. The first five years of a child’s life shapes their learning, confidence, behaviour, and future success. Yet, recent data shows that 58-68% of young South African children lack access to a pre-school, with the poorest facing the most significant barriers. Fewer than half of those attending early learning programs show readiness for school, highlighting a considerable inequality and development crisis.
