Cradle - Community Feeding Scheme (established 2016)

In 2016, two soup kitchens in the Greater West Krugersdorp area closed down. Every lunchtime at THE CRADLE OF HOPE – HOUSE OF RESTORATION, the children coming past from school started stopping at the gate, asking for something to eat.

We started buying 15 loaves of bread, a tub of peanut butter, and a tin of jam per day – and made protein-rich sandwiches to feed these hungry little tummies. Soon it was apparent that 15 breads were no longer enough. 15 became 30, then 80….

Currently THE CRADLE OF HOPE uses between 200-400 loaves PER DAY, every day. We buy the bread, the peanut butter and the jam with monetary donations – if we are not fortunate enough to have the items donated to us. The sandwiches are made by a group of loyal volunteers at our Cradle – Tjokkertjies for Jesus Pre-Primary School, and then handed out, at the House of Restoration to hundreds of hungry adults & children every lunchtime. For many, it is their only meal for the day. Many of them walk several kilometres from the CBD and even Munsieville, to fetch their sandwiches.

We also provide warm soup & bread 2 to 3 times a week. The queue often stretches around the block.
